Report on Vivekananda jayanthi on 13-01-2025

The Vivekananda Jayanti 2025 celebration at Sarada Vilas College, Mysuru, was a resounding success. Organized in collaboration with Youth for Seva, IQAC, and the NSS unit of the college, the event took place on January 13, 2025, at 10:30 AM in the A.V. Hall of the institution. The occasion aimed to honor the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and spotlight his teachings on youth empowerment and selfless service.

The event was graced by the esteemed chief guest, Sri Ramesh B.N., Chief of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Mission, Bengaluru. He shared profound insights into the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, highlighting his enduring message of universal brotherhood, tolerance, and unwavering self-confidence. Swami Vivekananda’s iconic words, & quote; Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached & quote; continue to inspire determination and resilience in countless individuals worldwide.

ನಗರದ ಶಾರದಾ ವಿಲಾಸ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಭಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಐ.ಕ್ಯೂ.ಎ.ಸಿ. ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನಾಂಕ 13/02/2025 ರಂದು ಒಂದು ದಿನದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣವನ್ನು, "ವರ್ತಮಾನದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ: ಪ್ರತಿಸ್ಪಂದನೆಗಳು" ಎಂಬ ವಿಷಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಸದರಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣದ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆಯನ್ನು ಮೈಸೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಕುಲಪತಿಗಳಾದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಎನ್.ಕೆ. ಲೋಕನಾಥ್ ಅವರು ಮಾಡಿ, "ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟ, ಎ.ಐ(ಕೃತಕ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆ) ನಂತಹ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ನೆಲ, ಜಲ, ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಬಗೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಧಾನ್ಯತೆ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಎ.ಐ.ನ ಬಳಕೆಯಿಂದ ಅಪಾಯವೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿದೆ, ಆದರೂ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಬಗೆಗೆ ಗಮನ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾದ ತುರ್ತು ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ" ಎಂದರು.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಅಕ್ಕಮಹಾದೇವಿ ಮಹಿಳಾ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತ ಕುಲಪತಿಗಳಾದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಸಬಿಹಾ ಭೂಮಿಗೌಡ ಅವರು ಸಂಕಿರಣದ ದಿಕ್ಸೂಚಿ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ, "ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣಗಳು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಇಂದು ತೋರಿಕೆಯ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ತನ್ನ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಒಳಗೊಳ್ಳುವ, ಒಳಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗೋಪಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದರು.

ಶಾರದಾ ವಿಲಾಸ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಗೌರವ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಆರ್. ದಿನೇಶ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, "ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಆದ್ಯ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ವರ್ತಮಾನದ ನೈಜ ಭಾಷಾ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. "ಸಿನೆಮಾ, ಹಾಡು, ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಭಾಷೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪರಿಣಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಪ್ರಾಸ್ತಾವಿಕ ನುಡಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ವಾಗತ ಭಾಷಣವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾದ ಡಾ.ಹೆಚ್.ಎಲ್. ರೇಖಾ ಅವರು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು.

ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಡಾ.ಎಂ.ದೇವಿಕಾ ಅವರು, ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೀಯ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಡುತ್ತಾ, "ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವ ಬೆಳಸುವ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾರದಾ ವಿಲಾಸ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

National Science Day- 28-02-2025

As an IQAC initiative, in association with the Karnataka Physics Association (R.), the departments of physical sciences organized a special talk on the topic "Artificial intelligence & Computer Vision: Intuition and first principles thinking" on the occasion of National Science Day. Mr. Pavan Kumar A G, automation architect, IBM was invited as the resource person. Dr. Srikanta B S, Vice President, Karnataka Physics Association was invited as a special guest. Sri. R Dinesha, Hon. Secretary, SVEI and Dr. M. Devika, Principal, Sarada Vilas College were present.

World water day on 27-03-2025

On March 27th, the NSS unit of Sarada Vilas College observed World Water Day, emphasizing the importance of freshwater and advocating for its sustainable use. The theme for 2025, "Glacier Preservation," highlighted the critical need to protect these essential water reservoirs.

During the event, 80 students enthusiastically took part in the "Water Conservation Campaign" and pledged their commitment to conserving water. Dr.Anand G welcomed the participants, while the completed pledges were handed over to Mr. Mahendra BS, the Programme Officer.

1. Smart girl workshop for adolescent girls in association with Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana, Mysuru

An Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) initiative for women empowerment through the women Empowerment Cell, Career Guidance and Placement Cell and POSH, Sarada Vilas College, Mysuruorganised two days’ workshop for Adolescent Girls in association with Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana (BJS) on the topic ‘Smart Girl: to be Happy; to be Strong” on 19th and 20th September, 2024 at 9:30 am. The primary goal of this workshop is to empower girls to make wise decisions by raising understanding of the various facets of adolescent girls. The workshop was inaugurated on 19th September in the presence of Mr. PrakashGulecha, President, BJS Mysore Chapter. The resource persons Mr. ChittiBabu, Mss. VedhaPradha and Mss. ShruthiPrabhu facilitated the two days’ workshop sessions conducted in two batches of first year B.Sc., B.Com. and B.B.A. girls. Nearly 50 students got benefited out of the w orkshop. The feedback of few of the girls who explained how this workshop helped them to strengthen their voice, communication skills, filled in them courage and confidence reflected the success of the workshop.

3. Report on the field visit to Dubare Elephant Camp, Coorg

On 19th September 2024, the Zoology Department of Sarada Vilas College organized an educational field visit to Dubare Elephant Camp, Coorg for the final-year students, following the syllabus guidelines. The visit provided students with practical exposure to wildlife conservation, elephant behavior, and the role of forest ecosystems. Students observed the daily activities at the camp, including elephant feeding and bathing, and learned about forest management practices. This hands-on experience deepened their understanding of animal behavior, conservation efforts, and ecological balance, enriching their academic knowledge.

4. REPORT ON VISIT TO COLLEGE OF FORESTRY PONNAMPET, COORG

The department of Botany had organized a visit toCollege of Forestry Ponnampet, Coorg, on 19th September 2024 for V semester students of B.Sc. Botany and Zoology Course as prescribed in the curriculum by the University of Mysore. The visit was organized by the department with the intention of providing knowledge of Floristic diversity for identification of flora. During the Visit students were taken around the campus and observed many tree species and had a note on their habitat, growth flowering, age and so on… Students had also collected plants species of various kinds on the way to Coorg, which will be preserved and maintained in the form of herbarium in the Department.

5. REPORT OF AN OUTREACH PROGRAMME ON ‘SUSTAINIBILITY YOURS’

The department of Botany& Nature Club of the College had organized an outreach program on Sustainability Yours in association with Consumers for sustainability. The Outreach programme aimed at creating awareness of harmful aspects of plastic usage and effects of animal husbandry and animal farming on ecosystem which ultimately lead to the imbalance in the sustainability of the ecosystem. The programme was scheduled on 23rd August 2024, the resource persons for the programme was Mrs. Seemanthini C. Project Coordinator, Consumers for sustainability, Mrs. Pratiksha, Creative strategist and Executive director, Consumer for sustainability. Students had also collected plants species of various kinds on the way to Coorg, which will be preserved and maintained in the form of herbarium in the Department.

6. REPORT ON ENGLISH DRAMA

The college theatre festival's inaugural play, as a part of the annual feature of Mysore English Theatre Forum, “A Sunny Morning” staged by the talented students of Sarada Vilas Degree College under the skillful direction of Prof. Sabeena, was a remarkable feat. Bringing an English play to life with students, many of whom do not come from an English-medium background, was undoubtedly challenging, but the outcome was impressive.
The lead roles were portrayed by Himalay Nag as Don Gonzalo and Malasa as Dona Laura, with a talented supporting cast that included Kanchana, Sujan, Ruchitha, Varsha, Madan, Bhoomika, and Prashanth. Sagar provided the musical score, while Sharath offered technical support. The event was a resounding success, showcasing the students' dedication and love for performing arts.

7. Career Guidance Session on GATE/JAM

On 25th September, 2024, the Career Guidance and Placement Cell of Sarada Vilas College organized an orientation session on the national level examinations GATE and JAM. This was an outreach program of IISc, Bengaluru. The session was facilitated by Mr. ArindanMondal, Post. Doc. Fellow, IISc and Mr. Balaram Shaw, Ph.D. scholar, I.I.Sc. Explaining the importance of GATE and JAM, the facilitators described the structure of the examinations and the various papers which the students could opt for. Facilitators also discussed the various advantages of these examinations apart from just getting into higher education in the premier institutes of the country. Dr. M. Devika, Principal, Sarada Vilas College, the members of Career Guidance and Placement Cell and few of the teaching staff were present in the session. Nearly 40 students had attended the session.

“DEEKSHARAMBHA”

TWO- DAY ORIENTATION PROGRAM-2024 05-08-2024 and 08-08-2024

The Students’ orientation program at Sarada Vilas College was conducted on 05-08-2024 and 08-08-2024 to welcome and orient the new batch of students. The aim was to familiarize them with the college environment, academic expectations and the range of resources available to support their educational journey.

On the first day, students were introduced to the college’s culture, values and traditions. We provided information on academic programs, policies and procedures. Key faculty members were introduced along with administrative staff and student support services. We conducted this program to felicitate interaction among new students and to ensure students feel welcomed and prepared to start their college journey.

During the program, the students were informed of the whole process whereby the incumbents adjust to their new roles and environment in order to expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration. At the inaugural session, Dr. M. Devika, the principal of Sarada Vilas College, welcomed the students and highlighted the college’s history, vision and mission saying that Sarada Vilas College has the history of 164 years, is the oldest and most prestigious educational institution in the heart of the city.

It is a treasure trove of educational wealth and serving students from all sections of societies. Many eminent personalities, including the Honourable chief minister of Karnataka Sri Siddaramaiah have received education from this institution. Hence the students must be proud for being associated with such an esteemed institution. Meanwhile, all the departments’ staff members along with the non-teaching staff members were introduced. Subsequently students were informed about other committees and its functions such as cultural and literary committee, career guidance and employment committee, NCC, NSS units to support the progress of students’ academic and extracurricular activities. The students were taken to well equip laboratories to enrich and inculcate the essence of belongingness and an awareness of the facilities available in the college. Students were given a guided tour of the campus to familiarize themselves with key locations such as library, student services centre, sports facilities, and class rooms and so on. They were also extensively introduced about a modern digital library by the librarian Dr. Swami. D. The library staff introduced students to the resources available such as e-books, journals and databases including how to access academic materials.

During the session, introductions were given to academic departments. Faculty members from each department introduced their respective programs, outlining course structures, elective options and potential career paths. Edited explanation of the examination system and academic expectations was provided to ensure students understood the assessment processes. They were also introduced to the student clubs and provided information on extracurricular activities, encouraging students to join and participate actively. Along with that, information on sports teams, cultural festivals and upcoming events was shared to promote a holistic college experience. The program was a valuable opportunity for students to become acquainted with the academic and social environment. Students had also collected plants species of various kinds on the way to Coorg, which will be preserved and maintained in the form of herbarium in the Department.

On the second day of the program, a special lecture was organized by distinctive guests to assist in the educational progress and enhancement of the academic capabilities of the students. In the first session, the chief guest was Prof. B S Sadashivegowda, the principal of Vidyavardhaka college of Engineering, Mysuru. He addressed the students and motivated them saying that in this competitive era, opportunities are available and therefore continuous learning, practice, extensive reading and hard work are essential as it improves the outcomes of the students. Additionally, he elaborated on how to make the best use of the technological advancement available in today’s modern era and how these platforms can help secure future employment opportunities.

In the second session, Dr.Vishwanatha, Assistant Professor at Sarada Vilas College of Education, inspired the students citing ‘life gives you opportunities only when you embrace challenges. The more you reject opportunities, the more you lose out on a better life. Therefore, it is important to accept the opportunities that come your way as challenges and work towards making your future brighter. In this regard, every student must engage in self- analysis. You must cultivate positive changes within yourself to achieve your goals’.

All the first year students benefited from the program in achieving its objectives, providing them with the tools and knowledge they needed to begin their college journey confidently.

“Blood Grouping & Blood Donation Camp 2024” - 18th September 2024”

Organized by Youth Red Cross Unit, SVC In association with Indian Red Cross Society® & Blood Bank, K.R. Hospital, Mysuru.

The Youth Red Cross Unit of Sarada Vilas College organised the “Blood Grouping & Blood Donation Camp -2024” on 18th September 2024 in association with the Indian Red Cross Society® & Blood Bank, K.R. Hospital, Mysuru at 10.00 am in AV Hall. The special invitee Sri. S. S. Vydhyanatha, Hon. Secretary , Indian Red Cross Society, Mysore unit, inspired the students with the importance of blood donation and the of individuals towards societal responsibility. Dr. Kusuma, the Blood Bank Officer, educated the students on the importance of blood donation in present days. The program was led by doctors from K.R. Hospital, including Dr. Naveen and Dr. Soni.

A total of 80 students & 20 Assistant Professors participated in the event. A total of 38 volunteers (38 students & 2 staff) donated blood during the event. Dr. Devika M., Principal, Sarada Vilas College presided over the event. The event was co-ordinated by Capt. R. A. Manjunath, Red Cross Officer, Sarada Vilas College, Mysuru.

Nature walk - Kukkarallilake

The activity organized by the department under ‘Nature Club’ was Nature walk in association with The Mindful walkers, which is a private organization in Mysuru on 24th March 2024. The activity was planned at Kukkarahalli Lake which is located in the city of Mysuru; the important aim of the activity was bird watching and naming trees in the area of Kukkarahalli Lake. The resource persons for the activity were Mohammed Zaid Khan Neelgiri, Naturalist, member of Wildcat-c Chikkamagaluru and RenuPriyadarshini M, Naturalist, assistant professor of Botany Yuvaraja’s College Mysuru.
